MAC Playreading

About the Series:

The Media Arts Council (MAC) Play Reading Series was created by playwrights Julie Zaffarano, Dave Ebersole, and Keenya Jackson, in partnership with Media Arts Council to create a space for local playwrights to hear their work read by talented actors and receive feedback from a public audience. The only regular new play reading series in the area, it brings exciting new stories to Delaware County.

Playwrights, actors, and directors who are interested in being involved in the series should contact Julie Zaffarano, juliezaffarano.gmail.com. Due to the limited budget for this project, we are unable to offer actors or directors a stipend through the MAC.

Upcoming Readings:

The New Play Reading series is a wonderful outlet for local playwrights to showcase their work. Enthusiastic audiences provide feedback which is so useful for authors in that it allows them to hone their work. I love being part of that process.
— Lauri Jacobs, actor, audience member
There is nothing more valuable to a playwright than hearing your work read aloud in front of an audience. The New Play Reading Series made that possible for me, and I’m delighted that we have this local treasure for area artists!
— Kim S, playwright
The MAC’s New Play Reading Series allowed me to connect with a kind group of talented folks who took care to present an excellent reading of my play, where I learned a lot through the rehearsal, reading, and talkback about the next steps the script needed for its development. The generosity of everyone involved was inspiring, both artistically and also as a model of how to be in an enriching artistic community.
— Bill D.
Playwrights need to experiment and play, and the New Play Reading Series provides the sandbox. For theater lovers, the Series is a haven to watch how the sausage is made, interact with artists, and hear terrific plays.
— Nicholas Wardigo, playwright
