Designed for high school students and oriented around a performing ensemble, MAC Jazz Performance is for students who want to perform, sit in with, and play with other musicians! This class focuses on playing together, building repertoire, and improving
improvisation skills in a variety of jazz styles.

Students will learn standard jazz repertoire and will also have the opportunity to compose original music for the ensemble. The semester will culminate with a group recording session, and may include opportunities to attend public jam sessions with professional musicians in the Philadelphia area.

In addition to repertoire and ensemble rehearsal, instruction will include topics in Jazz History and Appreciation, Music Theory and Analysis, Jazz Improvisation and Aural Skills. Participating students will have a primer in the fundamentals of jazz performance to prepare them for future performances, college auditions, and a lifelong love of America’s musical heritage.
